"I need too add an indicator to my K2 when running
split. A couple of times I thought I was split when I
wasn't. Had egg on my face when I called on top of the
DX station. That's embarrassing."

I concur with that Tony! If you come up with a good
solution, let me know. Sometimes I just need a big RED
LED to let me know I'm doing what I think I'm doing!

Good luck on the 160 attempt, I'll be listening for
'em as well (nothing this AM).

RE: Split indicator

Don Wilhelm-3
Folks,

A Split/RIT/XIT indicator can (and has) been added to the K2 as a mod.  If
you want a non-Elecraft implementation, you can do it.  Look at Tom
Hammond's website www.n0ss.net near the bottom, and/or look at the LA3ZA
Unofficial list of mods for the K2 at
http://www.qslnet.de/member/la3za/K2/mod.html.  For a 'no-holes'
implementation, a small LED can be mounted in a keycap.

I have pictures of mine on my web site at
http://www.qslnet.de/member/la3za/K2_LEDS.html
Since the Split LED output from the K2 only can drive a low current LED it
takes a single transistor driver to drive the tiny LED in the key cap.

I intend to draw a schematic of how I connected the Split LED along with the
KAF2 LED, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

The schematics of how the LEDs in the buttons for the SPLIT, zero-beat
indicator and KAF2 indicator are wired can now be downloaded from the page
above, see about halfways down the page.

Re: Split indicator

OK folks, what am I missing here?  There are so many things about my
Elecraft radios I still don't understand or know how to use, but ... the
little "down-arrow" blinks for me when I have held the SPLIT button
down.  I've always thought that was the indicator that I was in split
mode.  It did when I worked K7C.  I just did when I tried it right now.
Have I screwed up yet again?

Re: Split indicator

In reply to this post by k6dgw
Fred:
You are doing it right.  This discussion is mainly by people who think
the "down arrow" isn't a good enough indicator of split mode.  Either
that or they just like to constantly improve their K2.  I have too many
project boxes around the house with 1 or 2 spare holes in them, due to
design "second thoughts" and I don't want my K2 starting to look like
that, so my mods are few and far between.  Also, it would be hard for me
to believe I could significantly improve upon the "factory" design of my K2.
