Touch your soldering iron to one of the wires and life that side up,
then do the same to the other, hey presto you have it removed and the 2 holes it was installed in are full of solder - no problem, actually add a bit more to make sure there's enough flux on the sites, and remove that using soder-wick(tm). You can get decent solder wick at Radio Shack, although the name brand stuff is a little bit better. 73 de Alex NS6Y On Feb 9, 2006, at 1:18 PM, chris wrote: > I have soldered the wrong inductor for L30 what is the best way to > unsolder it I think this could be a problem to get it out > > Hope to hear from the group soon Chris _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Chris,
If you have access to a desoldering iron, you could use that - desoldering braid MIGHT work, but there are 5 leads to that inductor plus the two shield grounding tabs, so it may be tough to remove in one piece. MOST IMPORTANT - preserve the PC board!!! If you have difficulty getting the inductor out in one piece, crush the inductor with pliers or other instruments of destruction and remove the pins one at a time. Do what you must to preserve the PC board. Elecraft will send you a replacement inductor for an insignificant price (maybe even free if you ask nicely). BTW - you may want to include everyone on the Elecraft reflector in your 'approved' email list if you desire quick responses off-reflector - your *SPAM* email bouncing filter is an irritation to most everyone, and I for one will NOT fill out the required response 'forms'. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I have soldered the wrong inductor for L30 what is the best way > to unsolder it I think this could be a problem to get it out > > Hope to hear from the group soon Chris > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Oh my goodness a slug-tuned one? Um, if it were me, I'd order the
correct one I need, and remove the one that's soldered in with being kind to the circuit board in mind and kind or unkind to the inductor itself as needed. I've had good success over my tronics career re-using parts I've had to remove but good practice is to slap in a new one if one is available at all. 73 de Alex NS6Y On Feb 9, 2006, at 4:13 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: > Chris, > > If you have access to a desoldering iron, you could use that - > desoldering > braid MIGHT work, but there are 5 leads to that inductor plus the two > shield > grounding tabs, so it may be tough to remove in one piece. > > MOST IMPORTANT - preserve the PC board!!!
