John,
Take a look at Fldigi and Hamlib - those are multiplatform. If you are using Windows, take a look at Ham Radio Deluxe/DM780. If you do not include CW, the list of possible applications expands greatly. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/2/2012 9:23 AM, [hidden email] wrote: > I have completed building and setting my new K-3 " works great" looking for software to use with the K-3 for cw , data, logging , etc. > > Any suggestions ?? > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Dear John,
I am using Ham Radio Deluxe for transceiver control. For logging I use an odd combination of Log windows 4.5 and DXKeeper. You should try to avoid Log windows 4.5 and concentrate in using all aspects of DXLab Suite. I use DXLab suite, a superb free product (with extraordinary support) from
AA6YQ. The majority of the popular contest logging programs support the K3. You may find the links on Elecraft's K3 and K2 Control software page, http://www.elecraft.com/k2_remote.htm helpful as well. I would suggest N1MM Logger and the DXLab Suite. Both are free and N1MM
has particularly robust integration of digital modes for contesting, as well as CW and SSB. There will be a Webinar next Tuesday evening at 9:00 US Eastern time on digital and multi-op aspects of N1MM Logger - go to www.pvrc.org and click on Upcoming Webinars to register. It's free too. 73, Pete N4ZR The World Contest Station Database, updated daily at www.conteststations.com The Reverse Beacon Network at http://reversebeacon.net, blog at reversebeacon.blogspot.com, spots at telnet.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 and arcluster.reversebeacon.net, port 7000 On 3/2/2012 9:41 AM, Kjeld Holm wrote: > Dear John, > > > > I am using Ham Radio Deluxe for transceiver control. > > > > For logging I use an odd combination of Log windows 4.5 and DXKeeper. Congrats on the new K3! Check out DXLab on the Internet. It's a suite of some great programs for us hams. Best part of it , it's free and very well supported by the author and reflector group. 73 de Jim - KE8G ---- [hidden email] wrote: > I have completed building and setting my new K-3 " works great" looking for software to use with the K-3 for cw , data, logging , etc. > > Any suggestions ?? > > John > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I find DXLabs the easier set of programs to use. You can pick and
chose what components you need and as you get more comfortable then add others. HRD is moving to a commercial pay program where as DXLabs is free. The support you receive from the DXLabs author and yahoo group is excellent. They are both excellent programs and have many users but for me DXLabs is the one I chose. You will get many different responses, everyone has their favorites.
I used to use HRD/DM780 for digital modes, but more recently have switched to Fldigi. HRD polls the radio too much. Fldigi supports most all digital modes (except some of Joe Taylor's modes) If you are looking for a logger and control of the radio from the mouse and keyboard, I would suggest trying the DXLab suite. It supports RTTY and some data modes, but if you want more data mode selections, it interoperates with Fldigi. If you are well steeped into digital modes, you may want to run HamLib in conjunction with Fldigi. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/2/2012 1:46 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > Not knowing where to post this question other then here > > Here it is > > Between DXLab and HRD which is the 'better' (and more importantly why becuase better is so subjective) > > My first DX rig will be the KX3 and wonder which I should learn/use > > I plan to use digital as well as ssb. > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I use Logger32 for logging and one-click QSY to DXCluster spots.
Logger32 employs MMTTY or MMVARI for RTTY, PSK31, and other digital modes. It has a built-in telnet program for spots, plus CW and voice sending routines. It tracks a number of awards (DXCC, WAS, and others). It can output ADIF for LoTW log submission, and accepts LoTW downloads to integrate those data into the log. Logger32 and the associated programs are freeware. Logger32 is one of the best bargains in ham radio, but put on your flameproof suit before you ask for help on the hamlogger yahoogroup; the assistance there is very authoritative, but some posters assume that you have thoroughly read the help files (RTFM). http://www.logger32.net/ 73, Jan, KX2A ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I'd suggest the DX Lab Suite for logging and FLDigi for digital modes.
If you're a "CW guy" then I'd suggest adding the K1EL WinkeyUSB. Works all the logging programs and sends perfect CW despite windows multi-tasking handicap. > I'd suggest the DX Lab Suite for logging and FLDigi for digital modes. Actually, if you want some of the more esoteric digital modes (those 10% or less of digital activity not covered by the RTTY and PSKnn support in DXLab Suite), MultiPSK is a drop-in replacement for WinWarbler without any of the issues created by HRD/DM780. 73, ... I echo K9YC's comments. I use N1MM for contests and have been using
Logger32 for several years. I am planning on changing to DX-Lab-suite soon. I've been using DX-Lab-suite for a while now I just have not moved my Logger32 logs over yet. I'd add that I use a real RS-232 serial port for radio control and a WinKey USB for CW keying. first of all i want to thank everyone on their opinion. it will open some avenues that i was not aware of some additional info, if one cares. my principle computer is an IMAC though i run fusion so there is no issue with a windows solution(s) i probably will not go CW, even though it would be right up mu alley, (restricted antenna) but i am dyslexic and thus difficult for me to get the code right contesting maybe in my future, but for now i just was to do some QSO, and get on the air (hopefully without stepping on any ones toes).
