Having just finished the build of K2 #6100 with a KSB2 (installed) and
KNB2 (yet to install), I am looking at my next options. I plan to add a KPA100, KDSP2, and KAT100, and although I am enjoying the build process, another way to acquire these (at a potential savings) would be prebuilt. That said, I don't know whether it is in light of the K3 rage (i.e., selling off K2's to fund K3's), or whether this is normal turnover, but I am seeing these optional items come up for sale both here and on Ebay. Nevertheless, I don't know whether a used, prebuilt KPA100 or KDSP2 would be of use to me (as is), unless I had the modifications to my Control board, etc., and I don't see any upgrade kits/parts listed on the Elecraft site for this type of addition. I am guessing that it would be possible to get the needed parts from Elecraft (and elsewhere), but wanted to ask..... What are the issues regarding the addition of such prebuilt options as the KPA100 and KDSP2? Thank you (for this and the great replies to a few of my earlier newbie questions!!), 73, Greg KI4MMM P.S. I couldn't imagine parting with a beloved K2 (to fund a K3) - why not kill two birds with one stone and sell off the XYL ;-> _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have been thinking of selling my KPA100, as I like the K2
with the built in tuner, and will have the K3 whenever they ship. The KPA100 just plugs into the K2, you don't need anything else. The KAT100 needs the interface board I think. I wont part with the K2, it's a very slick package with the built in tuner, a great portable qrp rig (the best ever made I would say). On the other hand, I REALLY enjoyed building all the K2 stuff, and the KPA100 also works really well, so consider building one. Had the K3 not come out, I would have remoted the KPA100 and the KAT100 into the one remote box, that makes for a very nice setup, basic K2 with antenna tuner built in, and a 100 amp/tuner remote box for in the shack. I suspect most K2 stuff for sale is so the wife wont have fits when a K3 arrives! I suspect many are sad to see the K2 and/or any of its options going to make way for a K3... Before the K3, used K2 sales were rare, even though some own more then one! Not that I have received any negative comments, but I did want to
clarify that my statement was a joke coming from someone who is overwhelmed with the joy (and labor of love) of the whole Elecraft experience at this time. We're all lucky to have XYL's who are supportive of our hobby interests, and of course the XYL would come before a K2! It's just a thought that comes to mind when trying to think of what else you might have that has the value of a K2.....
