I disconnected all the cables to my K3, set it up on a temporary workbench, connected the DC and KUSB and commenced to run the K3 Utility once again.
The great news is that everything loaded up correctly and this time I checked the filter calibration/settings in the utility before powering down. One of the sub-receiver filter settings was incorrect and one of the filter offsets on the main receiver was slightly off as well---so I corrected them and applied the updated settings. Powered down and then powered back up---everything looks good! Disconnected the KUSB after the power down and powered back up a couple of times and no error messages at all. Don't know if that was what the problem was but at any rate I MAY have fixed it this time. I say may because I will need to hook everything back up (KPA500, P3, speakers, headset, antennas, etc.) and give it a good test run before I'm sure it's OK. Either way it goes later on I'll reconfirm the fix or else report otherwise; hopefully all will be well for now. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions; maybe that one of "disconnecting all other cables" might have been the one thing that skewed everything off the right path to begin with. Good news Jeff.
I'm late chiming in here but am wondering if you should check and maybe reseat the connections to the sub receiver. I think I got that DSE error once when I had disabled the sub-RX. Thanks for mentioning that, Fred. I'm still having trouble receiving signals on the sub-receiver although I just managed to work VP6T operating split on 10 meters a few minutes ago. That was encouraging!
When I turn on SUB I can hear strong signals but they are very weak on the sub-receiver, as if there is a poor connection somewhere. I suppose if I can't figure out what it is that I either have incorrectly configured or am missing that I'll have to open up the rig and check all the internal connections and TMP cables---but I built this rig barely 6 months ago and can't imagine how any of those stubborn TMP connections got loose... 73, Jeff |

You have checked voltage?. You have tried other Power Supply?. You
have had many problems at once, i have seen chaotic problem too associated to voltage problem, including bad filtering from SMPS. I'm using a heft Alinco linear power supply in combination with my solar panels/gel cell combo and there's no problem on the voltage now (although maybe a low-voltage condition may have started this whole mess yesterday as I might have only been on the solar/batteries power then). Thanks for mentioning this at any rate.
Just worked another DXpedition operating split with the K3's 100 watts a moment ago (I still need to configure the KPA500 so they'll work together again) so at least I'm able to operate again. 73, Jeff |
