In regard to Chris' comment about hearing strong stations 10 kHz away, I
found that NOT to be the case for me. I have 2 K2/100s with fairly recent
S/Ns (4687 and 5119) and the high signal mod. Conditions were SO good for
SS that even QRP signals were 20 over 9 and HP stations were regularly
pinning my LEDs. I was always able to sit within a couple of hundred cycles
of a 40-60 over signal (I'm guessing it was 60 because the LEDs only go to
40 over ;-) ) and plow away until the HP station got tired of me working
guys and he couldn't. I'm not knocking the FT-1000 at all, because I've
never used one in a contest, but I think there must be more to this story.
I use a 500 or 300 Hz bandwidth and the ADSP unit set to about the same when
I CQing in tight spaces. I made 1107 contacts and all 80 mults, but I had a
serious problem with my software and will have 30 or more dupes because of
software issues, but the rigs played GREAT! I would still love to see a mod
to turn off the PTT sending during CW though. I miss that capability, big
time.
