Well, Tom, when the idea first floated across the reflector a day or so
ago, it was meant as a JOKE by the person who sent it. Instead, a bunch of people took it seriously and made what I consider to be fatuous suggestions to the staff of Elecraft (via the list-server). Indeed, some of them went so far as to call Elecraft's design non-ergonomic. My goal in writing was simply to re-assure the dudes at Elecraft that in fact their design is NOT ergonomically deficient, and that I, for one, appreciate it. I don't see why people who dislike the design bother to buy it in the first place...and then complain about it to the designer. Their dissatisfaction should be better directed at themselves. This particular list server is remarkable for its very wide-ranging exchange of views, some of which have little bearing on the actual mission of the reflector. In this case, because of the number of people who bit on the joke, I wanted to make sure Elecraft didn't take them seriously. Perhaps I should have used the word "petulant" rather than "whiner." I don't think that this matter deserves a roll-call vote of yea vs nay. As in many mailing lists, the rule is to leave the policing to the moderator....FWIW.
