sidetone

Chris Waldrup
I have just started working on my CW so that I can better help out at FD next year rather than just do SSB.  I am working on CW practice in the evenings with a guy in my QRP club. However, I have noticed that when I hit the key, I hear nothing from the K2.  I am having to turn on my SWL receiver to get a sidetone.
I went to the menu and saw a settting that said StL040.
I wasn't sure if this is sidetone level or not, and changing the value up to the mid 200's didn't seem to get me a sidetone so it was changed back to 040.  Headphones were tried but no sidetone was heard in them either.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Chris

Chris,

You have inadvertently changed the sidetone source in the menu.

Enter the menu for STL and set the value to about 40, then tap DISPLAY
to toggle the sidetone source.  When you hear sidetone, stop tapping.

The sidetone source selection is intended to support older K2s that do
not have the hardware wiring change added.  Unfortunately it seems to be
more trouble than the benefit since there are more K2s with the change
added than without it.
