Steve Jackson-5
Remember the guy who took his K2 to the South Pole?

Well, here he is, up to something, again:

Way to go, Jim!

Well, the other winner is certainly no surprise either!  In
the non-PC supported category the winner was non other than
Steve Weber, KD1JV.  I suspect there are very few people on
this reflector who are unfamiliar with Steve and his many,
many terrific designs.  On the straight QRP reflectors I
suspect his name recognition is nearly 100%.   Steve is a
past Hall of Fame Honoree from ARCI, and regularly comes up
with some of the niftiest gadgets and radios you will find
anywhere.  Several of his latest designs (all of which are
meant to be high performance/low cost) are available through
NorCal and/or QRPKits, Inc.  Steve is so prolific at coming
up with things it makes one wonder if he has a real job!
But I think he does.  Hi.

Anyway, congratulations to both Jim and Steve.  Pretty
impressive stuff.

Re: slight OT: Elecrafter wins ARRL homebrew award

Dave Andrus-3
Steve's kit, called the MMR-40 transceiver, is already available as a
kit at http://www.qrpkits.com through Doug Hendricks.

I'm putting mine together right now!  BTW, you can peruse the site,
download the builder's manual, schematic, etc.  Nice design.  The kit
is more than the $50 limit, including the case, but it's still a great
deal, IMHO.

I really appreciate the work that these guys have put into these and
other very nice QRP designs. I also especially appreciate folks like
Doug, Dave (Small Wonder Labs) and others who make them into a one-
stop shopping experience, with very nice silkscreened, through-plated
PCBs.

I have also built the BitX20A from Doug, and am very pleased with this
neat little SSB-only 20m rig.  It's an improved version of a design
from a very innovative Indian ham that was looking for the cheapest
way to help get other countrymen on the air for the least amount of
cash.

It's nothing like my (now complete!) K2, but the price/features ratio
is hard to beat!

Keep 'em coming, guys!
