I was tuning idly around the 20M digital frequencies tonite when I copied a
fragment of a PSK transmission, wherein the guy said his antenna was buried under the ground. I was sure that it had been a flukey series of garbled characters, so I waited and listened on the frequency. Sure enough, a few minutes later, he faded back in, conducting another qso, and this time there was no mistake: his antenna is buried under the ground. Now that's the way to outfox the nosy neighbors. good DX, Tony KT0NY -- "We don't want every single college grad with mathematical aptitude to become a derivatives trader." -- Barack Obama ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Tod K0TO one time gave a presentation of an on/under ground antenna designed
for the military. Very interesting. John Heys G3BDQ's book 'Practical Wire Antennas' published in 1990 by the
RSGB describes such an underground antenna in some detail on pages 79-80. I don't know whether the book is still in print or in an electronic format anywhere. They are very quiet on receive it seems ...... 73 Stephen G4SJP On 12 June 2011 04:35, Jim Rhodes <[hidden email]> wrote: > Tod K0TO one time gave a presentation of an on/under ground antenna > designed > for the military. OTOH, maybe I should be thinking about an underground Yagi -- but then how would I rotate it? My ham shack is in the basement. Before I got my outside antenna up, I made
contacts using 30 feet of hookup wire. I was running only 5 watts. It amazes me what can be done with this ham radio stuff!! Tectonic plate movement. The problem is the controller.
