Hi Jim,
I just ran the version of spectrogram from your site through virustotal.com which checks any submitted file with 43 different commercial anti-virus products. None of the 43 virus checkers reported any problem with the file. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Dec 30, 2010, at 10:30 AM, Jim Brown wrote: > Thanks for the alert, Rich, and for your report, Guy. For Windows, there is yet another choice that is both good and free of
cost - Microsoft Securities Essentials. It seems to work in the background and so far has produced no false positives, nor has it let any viruses into my computers. It does want to do a scan occasionally, and updates daily with no interruption to my normal activities. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/30/2010 4:50 PM, Erik Basilier wrote: > It occurred to me that AVG might be overzealous, and from the comments about > Spectrogram I am reminded about it. > > Another observation is that that computer has become very prone to slowness > for several minutes after startup. > > The workaround seems to be to leave it on. Just downloaded the file and scanned it with AVG which said it is okay. Tom,
There is one benefit for me when using Spectrogram 16 - it has a larger display area, and therefore greater resolution and interpolation is available. BUT, it has more setup parameters and a few more bells and whistles that are of no use to me. Version 5.17 is entirely suitable for aligning the K1/K2 filters and does match your documentation for setup and operation. Other versions have different setup data. So my recommendation -- if you are a "newby" to using an FFT based audio spectrum analyzer, download version 5.17 from Tom's website and follow his documentation for setting it up. If you are interested in further enhancements after you have become familiar with the operation, then download version 16 (the last freeware version) and do whatever you wish with it - it has a lot of capability. 73, Don w3FPR On 12/29/2010 4:10 PM, Tom Hammond wrote: > John: > > There are several(!) versions of Spectrogram available. > > IF you are planning on using Spectrogram to align your K2 or K1, then > I'd suggest getting Spectrogram v5.1.7 from my web site... it's > located immediately adjacent to the printed documentation for > aligning your radio (K2 or K1), depending upon which rig-specific > page you've gone to. > > You CAN use newer versions of Spectrogram with my alignment docs, but > there's absolutely NO benefit in doing so and newer versions offer > features you will not need nor wish to use. > > Visit: > > For the K2 - http://www.n0ss.net/index_k2.html > > Spectrogram and docs are located about 3/4 of the way down the page > > For the K1 - http://www.n0ss.net/index_k1.html > > Spectrogram and docs are located about 2/3 of the way down the page > > The ONLY additional device you'll need is an audio jumper cable from > the radio;s > speaker output to the input of the sound card on your PC. Before you do, I would suspect Norton. I work in IT and one of the things I have been dealing with is Norton reporting that very "virus" incorrectly on many, many executables. Upgrading Norton Anti Virus" to "Semenatec Endpoint Protection" on our servers fixed all this false reportings of the below "trojan".

My old Dell desktop is not cutting it anymore, and I'm going to replace it.
This will not be the shack computer - I will use it in an office for general use as well as photo image processing duties. I see that Costco has very attractive prices for the seemingly high level of performance in a line of desktops by ZT Affinity computers. Does anyone here have any experience with these machines? You can answer off line if you wish. Thank you. 73, Phil, NS7P ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
