Scott,
Using the K3 Utility on your pc use the 'configuration' tab. Use 'edit power on banner'. Good luck 73 Joe K2UF No trees were harmed in the sending of this e-mail; however, many electrons were inconvenienced. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Scott Dunlavey Sent: Thursday, August 09, 2012 10:30 PM To: elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] splash OK... This is a great feature.
I placed my callsign and phone number on the bootup splash msg etc. This is very useful if your beloved K3 gets stolen (prove ownership), lost or otherwise missing. Adrian ... vk4tux |

Except it's very easy to change if you know what you're doing :) Better to
rely on the serial number, while not impossible to change it's a lot harder. For the purpose of proving ownership in case of theft, I have my name, callsign and email address on Dymo strips a couple of places inside my KX3 and K3 (no details here, be creative :). But I also have insurance, so if the worst should happen I'd be covered. 73, Thomas M0TRN On 10 August 2012 05:00, vk4tux <[hidden email]> wrote: > This is very useful if your beloved K3 gets stolen (prove ownership), lost > or otherwise missing. > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Group - An idea used on my net book and lap top computers. Any trophy
shop will have a computer controlled small engraving machine. These are able to scribe any message or logo onto metal or plastic as long as the surface is flat. Perfect for the inside panel of the K3. Can't say for the KX3 as my ordered unit hasn't arrived yet. ;-) 73 Bob W7AVK On 8/10/2012 2:32 AM, Thomas Horsten wrote: > Except it's very easy to change if you know what you're doing :) Better to > rely on the serial number, while not impossible to change it's a lot harder. > > For the purpose of proving ownership in case of theft, I have my name, > callsign and email address on Dymo strips a couple of places inside my KX3 > and K3 (no details here, be creative :). Hi Thomas:
Excellent idea. And, it also brings up the point that if one sells an Elecraft product to someone else, it would be a proper gesture to notify Elecraft of the new owner's name and contact info, so that there is a record of the new ownership. The second owner would be able to draw on that if the equipment happened to be stolen from him. 73 de Ray K2ULR KX3 #211 On Aug 10, 2012, at 5:32 AM, Thomas Horsten wrote: > Except it's very easy to change if you know what you're doing :) > Better to > rely on the serial number, while not impossible to change it's a > lot harder. > > For the purpose of proving ownership in case of theft, I have my name, > callsign and email address on Dymo strips a couple of places inside > my KX3 > and K3 (no details here, be creative :). The K3 and KX3 contain a menu entry which holds the serial number, and
that cannot be changed. Traceable to the original purchaser at Elecraft. Yes, the power-on "splash" is easy to change with K3 Utility.. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/10/2012 5:32 AM, Thomas Horsten wrote: > Except it's very easy to change if you know what you're doing :) Better to > rely on the serial number, while not impossible to change it's a lot harder. > > For the purpose of proving ownership in case of theft, I have my name, > callsign and email address on Dymo strips a couple of places inside my KX3 > and K3 (no details here, be creative :).
