I've had my ticket since 1974 (WN4IKG) I have owned over 25 rigs but never had one with two receivers. I 've always worked split with two VFOs but after a few emails from you guys and thinking about it (brain taxing) I can see where the second receiver would be useful. When I was working the HK0NA group, I just transmitted where they said they were listening but they had about a 10 kHz spread so it was a guess whether they would hear me or not. It would be nice to know exactly where they are listening. Thanks for the advice. Love the reflector.
Shipped my K2 off this morning and sold my IC 7000 last weekend. I am sans rig until this afternoon when UPS comes! I haven't been without a rig in I don't know how long! Its lonely. John KE4D My K3/100 kit arrives tomorrow. I did not order the sub receiver. I have only a vertical here and have some antenna restrictions (height) I use a SteppIR BigIR and it works great for me with my height restriction. So, unless one of you can explain to me why I should have the sub receiver with only one antenna, I'm leaving it the with one! I'm sure I don't understand receiver diversity since I never heard of it until recently. Guide me! Back in the days when I had a TS-940 I made a very handy mod. Since I used a headset
and didn't need the up/dwn connections on the microphone jack, I brought out the REV and A/B VFO lines. I had a small minibox with three nice big pushbuttons attached to a three foot cord that was connected into the mic plug. With this setup I could sit back and use the PTT button to key the tx on SSB, use the REV button to listen on the DX stations rx freq or change VFOs with the A/B button. I think this could be done on the K3 albeit with a lot more work. 73, Roger On 2/9/2012 12:40 PM, [hidden email] wrote: > I've had my ticket since 1974 (WN4IKG) I have owned over 25 rigs but never had one with two receivers. John,
That's one of the great things about the K3. If you decide later on a Sub Receiver would be nice you can always add it then. I was licensed also in 1974 (WN8JSQ) and the K3 was my first new rig. I have
never had a radio with 2 receivers till I got the K3. I first had the experience, though, with dual receiver radios at the contest station of K8AZ. I just had to have one. I wear headphones, so I have the DX in my left ear and transmit freq in my right. Oh what heaven it is. I can find the DX's listening Freq. so much faster and easier.
