I have very sensitive in-ear monitors.  The K3 (and the Orion, and
possibly other radios) has significant hiss.  I inserted an attenuator
and knocked the hiss down below my ability to detect it.  There is
plenty of audio range remaining.

You may find 10 to 20 dB will help.
