If I may offer something else to extend the range of any tuner - add a
capacitor or an inductor to the output of the tuner (or at the output of a
balun) for those bands the tuner has trouble matching. The idea is to
cancel (or reduce) the reactive component of the feedline impedance and it
may bring the feedpoint impedance into a range that the tuner can match.
How much capacitance (or inductance) - well I have no single answer for that
other than 'it all depends' on your particular tuner and antenna - a bit of
experimentation is in order. If you use capacitor values in 100 pf
increments and inductors in 10 uH increments, I am certain you will find
something that works. You may have to use different value capacitors or
inductors for each band (do not use both an inductor and capacitor together,
they will cancel each other's reactance out).
One caveat: a halfwave long wire (half antenna flattop plus the feeder
length) has a high resistive component, and will be difficult to match with
the L-network autotuners in any case.
