Yes, you can use a wire jumper - just bend a component lead and stick
its ends into the socket.
The best first step is to see if you can hear the crystal frequency in a
general coverage receiver. Connect a length of wire to the receiver
antenna jack center conductor and use it as a probe near the K1 crystal.
