Four years ago, the prototype KPA800 used eight APT ARF 463 transistors
(four per RF board).  Each plug-in board would be field serviceable.  The
prototype KPA1500 in effect doubled the number of boards and transistors.

I like "bolt-on" high-power transistors that use a small PC board slightly
larger than the transistor for the soldered leads, then that PC board bolts
down (e.g., using #10 machine screws) to the main RF board.  If a transistor
needs replacement, one simply unbolts the small PCB from the main board
without inflicting heat/shop tool damage onto the main board.
