K3 keypad freq entry curiosity

I was in the middle of making a freq change on 40 meters when a loud signal came on so I grabbed the AF gain and found out that it will not work until after one has completed entry of the freq and tapped the AFX button.

Not a big deal as this is the first time in two years of hard use that the situation has ever occurred.
