The Atom will do fine with Ubuntu 10.04.  fldigi runs on all the major operating systems (windows, mac, various linux flavors).  It does digimodes, logging, and rig control.  I'd set the 466 MHz one aside; even a $300 used laptop on eBay will outperform it.
