HI all:
I agree with Ken....there is nothing special about Weller tips. When
I was a kid, I used to "push hard" to make better contact when
soldering PL259s or wire antennas. I would invariably push so hard
that I would bend the pure copper tip.
I started using wire, as Ken described, but I used COPPERWELD. You
can push on that til the cows come home and it is just hard to bend
out of shape.
Of course, it's also tough to get into the right configuration to
begin with (I used to use a vice and a hammer to get the right angle
bends right), but there's a tip that will last a long, long time.
When bending it for setup, wear gloves and eye protection. Copperweld
goes through skin "real easy."
