All,
Last night I started winding toroids for K2 #5670. This amounts to my first-ever attempts at winding toroids of any kind so I was a bit apprehensive. So far it hasn't been bad at all. I do however have two clarification questions for the group that I was not able to get a warm fuzzy for by reading past posts to the list. 1. T5: I wound the 3-4 winding after the 8th turn of the 1-2 winding. The pic on the elecraft site (vs. the incorrect pic in the manual) has the 1-2 winding offset and wound after the 6th turn. Should I rewind T5 or will my choice of where to start have little or no effect as long as the number of turns and sense of the winding match? 2. RFC11: I wound this choke so that the leads match up with the holes on the board. By doing so the windings only take up about 70% of the core vs. the accepted 80-90%. Should I rewind? Thanks! Kirk,
The T5 3-4 winding is not critical in placement, so you are OK electrically. Physically may be another story - but if the wires reach the holes without undue distortion all is well. RFC11 is an RF Choke, so its exact inductance is not so critical that spreading the turns only over 70% of the core will make a difference. If the toroid is labeled "L-", it is used as an inductor and you will have to spread the turns as indicated (85%)to obtain the correct inductance. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Last night I started winding toroids for K2 #5670.
