tuning of rig after 30 meter mod

Alan Beck
Hi,

I have noticed that my noise floor is very low on 20 meters compared to
30 and 40. Signal levels are high on 20 meters when the band is open.

When I take the cover off, I notice the antenna tuner blocks the 20A
tuning, everything else I can get to.

What do you suggest? Also, what actual sized tuning wand belongs in
those caps? The plastic one you sent has rolled off. I am going to buy a
better one for my next tuning attempt.

Re: tuning of KX1 after 30 meter mod

David Toepfer
As I recall, the procedure for tuning the caps is to be done with the tuner out
and bypassed with a jumper, so I don't see why the tuner blocking the cap would
be a problem.

Regarding the alignment tool.  I wish I could say for sure which one is needed,
but I know the one I use comes from the ceramic alignment set sold by MorseX
(<http://www.morsex.com/tools/#alignset>).  They are not cheap, but the bonus
is that the relatively small red reversable tips come off the holder/driver
extension and you can pull it out and put it in your carry-with KX1 tool bag
(along with your antenna tuner jumper).
