voltages

Earl Ritchie-2
Hello.
In checking voltages in my K2, I find that the voltages on U8 pins 10& 11 are reversed.  Therefore the U7 pins 5 & 6 are reversed.  I get 5 v  where I should see 0 v.  Also on pin 24 U6 i measure 0volt unless I have the CAL FCTR mode  activated.  I think I had this problem once before but cant locate any notes on it.
I wonder if anyone else has had this problem or can offer any suggestion.
Thank you de Earl

RE: voltages

Earl,

I assume (sometimes a bad thing) that you are referring to U6, U76 and U8 on
the Control Board - you did not state which board, but the RF Board U8 is a
voltage regulator and has only 3 pins!

This is a case of observing digital signals and the level depends on just
how the K2 menu is set up, the active state of the signal lines, and a lot
of other variables.

Usually, these lines can be ignored for voltage checks.  Control Board U7
pins 5 and 6 (and the other connected pins) are digital clock and data lines
and usually are at 5 volts except during signalling times when they go to a
low state - you can observe these low going pulses with a scope if you make
some action such as turning the VFO knob.  U6 pin 24 depends on the status
of the Port setting in the menu.

If you see the K2 display change, the SCK and SDO lines are OK, and the fact
that U6 pin 24 changes state is adequate information to indicate that it is
working - when you have the KIO2 properly connected  you may observe
something different depending on the data that the K2 is receiving from the
external device.

It would be nice if the manual contained notes to the effects I have
indicated above, but alas, it does not.

Don W3FPR
