Hi All,
I'm stuck in a 3rd floor condo and wonder if these tiny ATUs can handle an end fed wire? My idea is to tape some wire on the ceiling rather than use a lossy small vertical on the balcony. Not one K2 for sale on www.eham.net ? Mmh, apparently XX k owners are holding on to their transceivers. I was hoping to get a used K1 or kX1 or CW only K2. A DSW 20 II would also work. When I read some reviews of the K3, I stumbled upon an unfair one and it brought back memories of 2 K3s. Alas, they are banned in Thailand and as a married man, I shouldn't risk 5 years in the slammer. You got a good one at an affordable price, please make me an offer off the reflector. 760 820 4980 Skype: kf6vci Mni tnx es vy 72 de Chris KF6VCI ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

These will allow a 90 degree room corner to be placed at a fed point, also providing multi-band coverage, and the atu will definitely tune them. There are commercial versions, but they are also very easy to cobble together (home brew). I would expect a lossy vertical on the balcony to be less lossy than a wire stapled to drywall and inside a building.

The KX1 tuner is designed to tune a 25-foot end-fed wire. I used it successfully from a cruise ship in that configuration.

The KX1's ATU was optimized for use with random length end-fed wires.
About 20-25 feet works well for 20/30/40 m, and shorter lengths are fine for just 20 and 30. It will match a variety of other loads, too. I suggest experimenting. The tuner in the K1 has a wider range. 73, Wayne N6KR ---- http://www.elecraft.com On Aug 24, 2010, at 7:37 AM, "Monty Shultes" <[hidden email]> wrote: > The KX1 tuner is designed to tune a 25-foot end-fed wire.
