xv series

I'm considering adding an XV series transverter to my K3 station. Do
they require a KIO interface also

No but it certainly helps. You could use the main antenna socket but it is better to use the transverter ports on the KXV3.

I think there is some confusion here. A transverter doesn't need the KIO3 at all. But it is better to use the low level transverter ports provided by the KXV3A accessory than to use one of the antenna sockets.
