Season's Greetings Elecrafters:
This weekend I had a QSO with a West coast station that related that he was having some TVI issues with a neighbor and that to help reduce it, he had purchased a low pass filter. That got me to thinking - where is my harmonic energy these days running a K3 and Alpha 9500? So I hooked up a 12 bit scope and used a probe as an antenna and sampled the RF with key down on 20 meters to get a sense for how close I might be to a neighborhood revolt. I've had no complaints so far. The screen shot tells the story at http://www.wd1v.net Wishing you a peaceful and delightfully attenuated harmonic season! 73, John - WD1V ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi John,
These peaks could be nonlinearities from your scope amplifier. 73, Nikolay / LZ1NRD ----- Цитат от John Seney ([hidden email]), на 25.11.2012 в 22:13 ----- > Season's Greetings Elecrafters: > > This weekend I had a QSO with a West coast station that related that he was > having some TVI issues with a neighbor and that to help reduce it, he had purchased > a low pass filter. That's pretty sweet, 3rd harmonic being the worst and greater than 60 dB
down. I like your Amp and the K3 driving it! Times like this, with great propagation, make me think... 1000 watt carrier with a 3rd harmonic 60 dB down says that harmonic is 1 mW. I've had reliable communication with Australia at 250 mW when the propagation is favorable. How far will 1 mW go? Just thinking, not complaining. I think the FCC requirement is 43 dB down and you are MUCH better than that! 73, Bob, WB4SON ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Quick answer: Just as far but success is determined by the received noise
threshold and the ability to minimize it. THAT'S why we use Elecraft. ;-) Rick wa6nhc -----Original Message----- From: Bob How far will 1 mW go? ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
