Hi guys,
I am working on my second K2 right now and things are going along great (I sold the first one last year). I am faced with a decision. I am thinking of getting another one. I have some stuff getting sold and I am thinking of getting another K2 dedicated to QRP and get the KPA100 for the one I am building now. I think two K2s side by side will look good... one for QRP/field use... and the other that becomes all the rig I will ever need (ok.. except for getting some transverters) What do you guys think? Also, is there a support group for those who are addicted to building these things? 72/73 Jason Hissong -- "A long journey starts with the first step and an understanding spouse." http://www.undermidnight.com - astronomy and astrophotography http://www.n8xe.com - ham radio http://www.jasonhissong.com - electronic music composition _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi,
I'm actually thinking the same thing !!! I have a K2 fully loaded (every options). The KAT100 is built in the same enclosure that the KPA100, so I have a full QRO and an instant QRP setup at will. I'm realy planning to build another K2 with a few options for QRP use only and take my first K2 top, that include the KAT2 and I/O, on top of the second one instead. I'm really addicted to Elecraft... Looking good in the shack... ;-) Le 05-06-22 à 22:21, Jason Hissong a écrit : > Hi guys, > > I am working on my second K2 right now and things are going along > great (I sold the first one last year). Hi Jason
That sounds like a fun idea. Personally, I think I would opt for the idea of the QRP K2 plus the 100w PA and ATU in a second cabinet next to it. Same amount of desk real estate, but quite a bit less money overall. Either way, you can't lose. Good luck and 73 Bob N6WG -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Jason Hissong Sent: Wednesday, June 22, 2005 7:21 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] 2 K2s? We have a scoop here! Mr QRP-ONLY himself, N6WG, actually stating that he would even consider a rig that can push more than 15 watts is a major news item! Go for it, Bob. After all you have done with 5 watts, it would be a very interesting experiment to see if you could do any better with a few more watts. With your proven capabilities and antenna system, I have a feeling that 100 watts would give about the same results as the 5 you have been running for years! Still, actually stating that you would "opt" for more power is cataclysmic. The "big one" must be about to his San Andreas!!! :-) :-) :-) -Jack Brindle, W6FB ======================================================================= _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Oh boy. Another example of extrapolating from inadequate data :-
) Sorry, Jack, I'm not likely to "upgrade" as I'm having too much fun stealing the bacon from QRO stations in contests. Gotta have some compensation from being run over by ??kW trucks. I was just pointing out that it would be more cost effective to do the two units bit, and keep the existing K2 as a QRP only box. Gotta feeling it may be a while before I hear the end of this :-) I'll be trying the NS practice run tonight before I box up the station for FD. Hope to see you there. 73, Bob N6WG -----Original Message----- From: Jack Brindle [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2005 10:31 AM To: Robert Tellefsen; Jason Hissong; [hidden email] Subject: RE: [Elecraft] 2 K2s? Thanks for the responses guys... I just have visions of two K2s in the
shack glowing back at me. Is it normal to have such visions? It is so much fun building these things. I was debating whether of getting a regular HF rig from one of the major commercial outfits to be the "shack rig".. but to be honest, the K2 delivers more than what I would get from those guys so I started thinking.. why not TWO? The K2 twins. I have actually owned three... one was already built when I purchased it... the second one I built (pictures at my site http://www.n8xe.com/radio/k2.html, that's me 40 lbs ago!! This is my second one that I have built. Another reason why I would like two is while I am taking pictures of the stars (my other madness.. er.. uh.. hobby) work some QRP from the field with the lower power one. Don't need an antenna tuner.. all my antennas are resonate on the bands of choice (which makes it nice). Well.. I gotta get the stuff sold first (anyone interested in an Orion ED80 telescope?) 72/73 Jason N8XE Mark Bayern wrote: >>What do you guys think?
