40 meter Elecraft net

Kevin Rock
Sorry I was not on for the 40 meter net.  As I was getting started a very loud signal informed me I should not use the frequency and then proceeded to QRM me.  I thought it best not to continue.  I am not sure if we should use 40 meters again for the Elecraft net if folks like this want it off the air.

If you start up on a frequency and find that it's in use, I'm sure you are prepared to
move up or down a bit, which would solve that problem.  If the guy is deliberately
interfering with you, I suggest that you continue. Deliberate QRM violates FCC rules, not
that he cares, but there are more of us than there are of him and ultimately he will go away.

Heck pissing off a guy trying to run QRM over a net could be quite
fun...  Heck this could result in making the net even MORE popular! ;)

To be honest, based solely on KD5ONS's description, it isn't clear who
QRM'd who here.  He stated that the other station informed him as soon
as he started the net that he should QSY.  What does that sound like to you?

For what it may be worth (probably not much), I've heard more nets fire
up on top of a pre-existing QSO (including my own) than I've heard
people intentionally QRM a net in progress.

If it was a simple matter of QSY I would have done that in an instant.  I always do!  He stated: do not announce the net.  When I asked what was bad about the Elecraft net he said there was nothing wrong with the net just don't announce it.  Then he proceeded to send odd dits and dahs over me.  So I sent QRT and shut down.  He never once said I should QSY.

Kevin,

As others have said, I would QSY and continue what I was doing.  If
you had kept on doing that the operator (not sure it was a male or
female) would probably have tired of the game and move off.

Ignoring LIDs and intruders is the classic method of dealing with
them.  They want the attention you give them.  If you don't give it to
them they will find someone else to molest.

Man, some people can be RUDE!

I can't tell you how many times I've found myself listening to a couple
of hams in a friendly rag-chew, and someone comes right in on top of
them, tunes up and calls CQ.

Anyway......when is the Elecraft 40 meter CW net scheduled?

Thanks

Re: 40 meter Elecraft net

Yep ... lots of jerks out there.  Keep in mind, though, that while you
might be able to hear all three hams (the guys already in QSO and the
"jerk" that tunes up on top of them, the "jerk" might not be able to
hear either of them.  Depending upon the band, he might be too close to
them geographically, or have a high local noise level, or have a
directional antenna that favors you versus the other guys, or be using a
much narrower filter than you are.  It happens all the time.
