Hi to all,
Just finished Part 2 of the basic K2 and having problems with the VCO Alignment. I set the K2 to 4 mhz and connected a DVM to the left side of R30 and I read 8.0 v and can not change it by adjusting L30. I checked the VCO readings and just 4000 and 7300 were on the high side. How many turns can you turn L30? I only seem to get about 1 and 1 half down and i get resistance, don't want to break it. The manual also says that if you do not get any change in the voltage ( like i have) to "refer to Troubleshooting". Well there is no mention of this in the troubleshooting section that I can find. Any help would be appreciated. Tnx in advance Jerry , N2UZ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. First, this: http://www.ac6rm.net/mailarchive/html/elecraft-list/2000-08/msg00367.html
Then, if you haven't already, try spreading the turns on T5, if possible. If that doesn't work, rewind T5 with a 15 turn primary, which is what I had to do with 4439. Jerry,
A common problem with the VCO is the thermistor board. Check it carefully for proper soldering. In fact check everything in the VCO area for proper soldering, then check the soldering, and when you are finished, check the soldering!!! Seriously, soldering is the most common cause of problems, and second is improper placement of components, so if you don't find a soldering problem, check each component for the proper value. If those steps don't correct things, I can help you troubleshoot it on a step by step basis - but that may take quite a few (off-reflector) e-mail exchanges. If it comes to that, first step is to tell me what test equipment you have available. 73, Don W3FPR ----- Original Message ----- > Just finished Part 2 of the basic K2 and having problems with the VCO > Alignment.
