Given the following setup: K3 using transverters, with 50MHz transverter
set for xv1. When I enter a 50MHz frequency via the com port the built in 50MHz receiver is selected. I then have to band up once to get to the xv1, then I can successfully band up to 144 etc. If I enter a 144 frequency, it immediately goes to xv2. What would it take to get a serial command to go to a frequency in 50MHz range to go directly to the xv1 selection? thanks Phil K3(352)TUF _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I haven't built my XV144 yet, but I think this is covered in the Owner
Manual pg 36 (Using Transverters) -- When you want to test the depths of a stream, don't use both feet. -Chinese Proverb On 19 Mar 2008, at 02:23, Phil Theis wrote: > Given the following setup: K3 using transverters, with 50MHz > transverter set for xv1. > When I enter a 50MHz frequency via the com port the built in 50MHz > receiver is selected. Just a curious question. Since you are using a K3 and that radio has 6
meter (50 MHz) coverage included, why are you trying to use an add-on transverter? Interesting point. I think it would take a firmware update. I also wonder what happens with a transverter between or below existing bands.

With trepidation I read the article in the latest QST - the same issue
in which the K3 review is published - "Audio Frequency Enhancement." As I feared, the secret is out. Just look at the top cover of your K3 and read the article and you'll understand. (Not an ARRL member? Sorry, it is copyrighted material.) Fortunately, the author didn't explain how the Higgins Model can be applied to DSP, so we can still claim that competitive edge. 73, Lyle KK7P PS - Now you know why you shouldn't operate the K3 while it is standing on its side. Those little rubber feet are for protection when traveling, or to correctly place the matching K3 right channel external speaker (if and when it becomes available). Or the panadaptor (not yet available) for those who are not left-eyed. Back to my Kool-Aid... _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. My favorite Larson E. Rapp article was the one about the buried
antenna. He had read in the Antenna Book that every dipole has an "image" antenna an equal distance below ground. So he figured you could just as well put the real antenna under ground and then the image would be up in the air. I understand that some guy was actually digging up his yard before a buddy clued him in. :=) Al N1AL On Wed, 2008-03-19 at 21:24, Lyle Johnson wrote: > T. David Yarnes wrote: > > Hmmmmmmmmmm! Also your hole needs to be at least 1/2 lambda deep for the 20m band. Filling it with salt water is not worth the increase in shark bite risk, despite many claims to the opposite. vy 73 de toby _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It took a sting of posts this morning for the 'light' to come on - my QST
has not arrived yet. My very first April QST was back in the early 60s. There was an article about tapering a single wire feedline to concentrate the power going to the antenna, full of formulas to derive the proper lengths and diameters. After crunching the numbers with my trusty sliderule, I took it in to my math teacher. We worked on it together, she concluded there was an error in the formula as the answer was always zero. I then asked my elmer about it - he is still laughing. Happy Spring to all! 73, Bill N2BC K2/06254, K3/soon! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lyle Johnson" <[hidden email]> To: "T. Likewise my QST has not yet arrived. Hopefully if the Post Office
mis-delivered it the person reading the magazine would become interested in becoming an Amateur operator. Many years ago, the year has been forgotten as has the original source, I remember reading about a US Army officer in World War I that wanted/needed to get a message to the headquarters. The unit the officer commanded did not have a working radio. The officer sent a runner through enemy lines to HQ telling them how the message would be sent. The officer then tied bell wire to two bayonets and stuck them in the ground several yards apart. The other end of the bell wire was connected to a telegraph key. It seems that if the leads are connected as mentioned, the signal can be received at a square of the distance between the leads where the signal is transmitted. 73, Jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Coleman N2BC" <[hidden email]> To: "Lyle Johnson" <[hidden email]>; "T.
