I am building my K-3 and have come to the point(p 36 in instructions)
where I am attempting to mount the Front Panel. I can't seem to get it on. I'm afraid to put too much pressure for fear of breaking something. Any good ideas on this from someone who has already done this? Thanks! Hi George, Make sure the microphone socket is correctly seated. Mine was a tight fit. 73 John Petters www.traditional-jazz.com Amateur Radio Station G3YPZ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I kept going at it my way, and finally backed off and read through it
the way mentioned in the documentation (crazy idea, I know) and it went together pretty well. The key is to get the bottom single row connectors started. Just started, just barely. Then work the front panel upward a bit. Now, lots of activity with a good light / flash light, to confirm the double connectors and single connectors are lined up. Once all is well, seat the connectors further. Hope this helps. George....
When I put 443 together I had to take my pocket knife and "ream" out the mike connector hole ever so slightly. I think it was some paint that was still in the edge of the hole. Then the connector popped in without any force what so ever. Lee K0WA In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. George,
It is highly probably that your problem is the microphone connector. It's a tight fit, and may have to be reamed a bit. Try wiggling the panel around that area and see if that isn't where it is binding up. Mine was tight, but didn't have to do any reaming of the hole. It just took a little localized jockeying to get it to slip over the connector. Hello George,
I had the same problem until I studied the right-hand photograph at the top of page 37. It instructs you to remove an interfering screw (and put it back later after the front panel is mounted). When I did this, the front panel went to place easily., Please let me know if this helps. 73, John, no8v _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. George;
Look at Fig 51 at the top of pg 37. You may be having a problem with screw on the 2D connector hitting the DSP board as shown in the right picture. I had to remove the screw as suggested to install the FP. Also there was a slight misalignment in the pins on the two connectors but I was able to shift the board a bit to get the connectors on.
