Hi,
One of my cables slipped out of the Anderson power pole- I didn´t solder it properly. Is there a way of getting the piece of metal out of its socket, or do I need a new pole. I tried to get it out, but I´m a bit concerned to break it. 73, Chris-OE5CSP |
Use a small flat-blade screwdriver. Lift the front edge of the connector, which hooks over the front lip of the metal piece that's built into the plastic connector. It's designed to work this way. You shouldn't break it.

They are simple to remove, there is a special tool, but a very small screwdriver will work.
Put it in the 'front' end, just under the contact and press the leaf spring that holds the contact in down. Normally you'd just pull on the wire, but you'll have to use a pair of fine tweezers to pull the contact out. 73 de M0XDF, K3 #174 -- If a man will begin with certainties, he shall end in doubts; but if he will be content to begin with doubts, he shall end in certainties. -Francis Bacon, essayist, philosopher, and statesman (1561-1626) On 15 Mar 2010, at 14:59, Radio Amateur N5GE wrote: > On Sun, 14 Mar 2010 11:01:17 -0800 (PST), OE5CSP-Chris > <[hidden email]> wrote: > > I would not repair it unless I could not get a new one. > >> >> Hi, >> >> One of my cables slipped out of the Anderson power pole- I didn´t solder it >> properly. Is there a way of getting the piece of metal out of its socket, or >> do I need a new pole. >> I tried to get it out, but I´m a bit concerned to break it. >> >> 73, Chris-OE5CSP > > Tom, N5GE > > K3 #806 with SUB RX, PR6, > KRC2 and K144XV > K3 #1055 with PR6 and XV432 > W1, 2 W2's and other small kits > > http://www.n5ge.com > http://www.swotrc.net > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

>Is there a way of getting the piece of metal out of its socket No. You've got to replace the pole. I've successfully done it with much larger power poles that still had a wire attached, but with the wire broken off, you'll never get it out. If the wire were still attached, you could slide a small screwdriver between the soldered contact and the retaining spring under it, then pull on the cable to get it out. These connectors are inexpensive, widely available, and work very well. I've rewired my entire station to use them for power, and also used them for all the computer equipment that uses "wall wart" supplies of various sorts. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Unfortunately, APP is not widely used in Europe, and can be expensive and
hard to find. I have always brought mine over from Dayton trips, etc. If Chris does indeed need to replace his connector, he can e-mail me directly, and I will drop him a pair in the local mail. 73, Mitch DJ0QN ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Brown" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Monday, March 15, 2010 7:07 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Anderson power pole > On Mon, 15 Mar 2010 09:59:33 -0500, Radio Amateur N5GE wrote: > >>Is there a way of getting the piece of metal out of its socket > > No. You've got to replace the pole. Insert a small jeweler's screwdriver or an Xacto blade under the curved metal piece to unlock it from the front of the plastic housing. Then push it out the back with another small screwdriver blade. If the wire is still attached you can simply pull on that once the front lip is released. I've done it many times. You can free the contact with a small screwdriver and then either push it out with another tool or grab the other end with thin long-nose pliers or tweezers. There's nothing to it. -- Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I have also saved a quite number of power pole connectors with small jeweler
pliers like Phil states.
