Scenario: Contest setup, going from voice to WSJT
While sound card audio comes in from the sound card, is it possible to automatically prevent microphone audio ? Looking for a bullet proof way to move gracefully from SSB mode to WSJT mode. Switch from USB to DATA A - use rP.h/l or fP.h/l for mic input and Line In for data. 73, ... I think there is also a Mic+Line option in one of the menus (I don't
remember if it is the main or config) that may need to be set to OFF Mike - KI0HA On 6/4/2014 8:17 PM, Joe Subich, W4TV wrote: > > Switch from USB to DATA A - use rP.h/l or fP.h/l for mic input > and Line In for data. > > 73, > > ... Hi Joe!
I was under the impression that you had to switch to LineIn mic input to be able to use the LineIn. Regardless of what is connected to it: actual mic audio or sound card. Am i wrong? That's how i've been using my Signalink anyway... __________________ Slava (Sal) B, W2RMS [hidden email] On Jun 4, 2014, at 9:17 PM, Joe Subich, W4TV <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Switch from USB to DATA A - use rP.h/l or fP.h/l for mic input > and Line In for data. > > 73, > > ... The K3 has three external audio inputs: the front panel microphone jack,
the rear panel microphone jack, and the rear panel Line In jack. You can use configuration settings to select among microphone input only (line input muted), line input only (microphone inputs muted), or both microphone and line inputs live at all times. Since the desired settings are likely to be different between voice modes and data modes, the K3 remembers these settings separately in voice modes (SSB, AM, FM) vs. audio-based data modes (DATA A, AFSK A). In data modes, you would normally set MAIN:MIC SEL to LINE IN. When you do this MAIN:MIC+LIN is automatically turned off (the display shows NOT APPL). The microphone input is not live, i.e. you don't have to worry about it when LINE IN is selected. You connect the sound card or other interface to the rear panel Line In jack. In voice modes, you would normally set MAIN:MIC SEL to fP or rP depending on where your microphone is connected. If you are not using an external voice keyer, you would set MAIN:MIC+LIN to OFF. If you are using an external voice keyer connected to Line In, you would set MAIN:MIC+LIN to ON, in which case the microphone and line inputs are both live. This allows you to switch back and forth at will between the voice keyer and microphone input, which is OK for voice modes using a voice keyer to supplement live voice input, but not OK for digital modes. If you insist on putting the radio in USB mode to operate digital modes, you will be faced with a requirement for muting the microphone during data transmissions. This is just one among several reasons why it is recommended to use DATA A mode in preference to USB mode when you are operating in digital modes. 73, Rich VE3KI ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

The last sentence above is key. I didn't notice it in the manual and set MIC+LINE to ON, which was far from ideal. Someone on this list asked, "Why are you doing that!", I changed it, and life became much better. Perhaps a table in the manual of which settings are remembered by mode would help. 73 Bill AE6JV ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Frantz | Truth and love must prevail | Periwinkle (408)356-8506 | over lies and hate. | 16345 Englewood Ave www.pwpconsult.com | - Vaclav Havel | Los Gatos, CA 95032 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

I just looked in my K3 and this is what i have:
i'm using a Signalink USB box for DATA A mode and i set the MIC to be LineIn. The MIC+LIN option in that case displays Not Applicable. When i switch to USB - the Mic input is switched to whatever i had it set to (rP.L in my case). So it does remember Mic Input setting by Mode which is great, because i thought i'm gonna have to set it manually every time i wanna do PSK31. Awesome! __________________ Slava (Sal) B, W2RMS [hidden email] On Jun 5, 2014, at 1:07 PM, Bill Frantz <[hidden email]> wrote: > On 6/5/14 at 6:15 AM, [hidden email] (Richard Ferch) wrote: > >> The K3 has three external audio inputs: the front panel microphone jack, the rear panel microphone jack, and the rear panel Line In jack. Hi Bill,
No financial interest but one of the best bargains and accessories for a K3 owner is the KE7X book. What you want is in Appendix C. Has a chart of "PER'S"; band, mode, ant, RX & VFO. 73, Bob K2TK On 6/5/2014 1:07 PM, Bill Frantz wrote: > > The last sentence above is key.
