I'm always adjusting sidetone level. Room noise, fans, xyl, people sleeping,
dogs barking, etc. etc. many other factors dictate this and why not? It's a tone you need to hear. Why would one expect it to always be at the same level? I discovered the tap the button then tap the key trick some time ago but in the heat of a QSO it's a bit clunky and then "mon" disappears when hitting another button and you have to start over again. The sidetone button defaults to PWR. Why? Why would I want to constantly adjust PWR instead of sidetone? Seems to me like the default should be sidetone, not PWR. But then I'm a cw guy.
