A case which I have used a lot for electronics in general is:
http://www.stormcase.com/StormCaseSizes/StormiM2500.htm Very durable and meets IATA carry-on reqs. A nice step up from Pelican at a similar price. 73 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Err, how is this a step up from the Pelican cases?

It's fibre-reinforced. Withstands airline baggage handlers (and bear
attacks!) better. Probably over-kill, but if a person is obsessed with having the best protection, this is a decent candidate. If this doesn't do it for you, the next step is concrete with re-bar. Or maybe just stay home. David:
Being bear proof may not be relevant in VK land, but we have lots of bears here in Maine. 73, Steve AA4AK At 08:12 PM 12/13/2007, Vk2NU wrote: >Err, how is this a step up from the Pelican cases? > >It's resistant to bear attacks (see picture on web-site). Almost - but in practice the problem is that it can't hold very much, not a K3. The case itself weighs 5 kg. The total weight limit is frequently 6kg or 7kg. Some airlines allow more but it is variable.
The maximum size is OK. The limit is 22in x 17.7in x 9.8in. The storm case is 21.7 x 14.1 x 8.9 in. |
This past week I went to Fry's to look for a case for my K2. I looked
at the Pelican cases and quickly discovered that they're rather expensive! I ended up getting a Platt #407 which fits my K2 perfectly, and was only $29.99. The case has the blocky adjustable foam and it was pretty simple to adjust it for the K2. It doesn't have room for accessories, though, but I have another bag for that stuff. It isn't as nice as a Pelican or a Storm case, but was significantly cheaper and will probably meet my modest needs just fine. I'm almost certain mine isn't bear resistant. But I think that's ok. If a bear gets hold of my K2 I'll probably just let him keep it. I doubt you can ever get that bear smell out of the toroids... :-) Sarah AF6FH _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
