I have an Eagle and a TS590 and a pair of K3s along with 16 other transceivers
n my station,  The other radios are just as new and cost many dollars more.
he only two radios I have had complements on the audio from DX stations are my
RION ll and my Eagle.  The Eagle is a way under rated radio.
Actually I would rate the radios as follows......Eagle, TS590, K3.  There is so
uch hype surrounding the Elecraft gear it is like a Cult

Wasn't the first run sold out?  Wait for the QST review, then you'll see
ore comments.  For me, I don't have time to write a review, I'm too busy
orking the world with my Eagle.  :D

ope John Henry can get the Eagle to work smoothly in CW QSK with a linear amp.

Re: Comments?

Gary K9GS
In reply to this post by Able2fly
Well...not out of line Bill but George, W6GF is the one that bases his
opinion of transceiver selection solely on the audio reports he gets
from DX stations?  If that were the case, the Collins S-Line would be
the best radio ever made (no I don't want to debate the audio
characteristics of Collins radios).  I suspect that anyone that has 20
different radios is a gear collector and not a radio user.  He probably
also has a whole collection of accessories like microphone eq's,
compressors, and "high end" microphones adding to the audio chain.  I
suspect he never took the time to properly set up all of his radios and
probably got lucky with the Eagle, Orion II and TS-590.

To each their own and we all have different opinions on what makes a
radio "better" but I'll take a radio with receiver characteristics like
the K3 over "better sounding audio" on SSB any day.

It's a silly debate....similar to someone saying a Toyota Camry is the
best car ever made because it's blue.

Re: Comments?

David Gilbert
In reply to this post by Able2fly

Comment on what?  Other than his statement about the audio he doesn't
say anything about why he rates one rig over another, so how would it be
possible to judge?   And if he doesn't like the transmit audio on the K3
with all of the tailoring it allows, it's pretty obvious he doesn't know
how to set it up anyway.

I do agree that many reflector comments cross over into cult worship
territory, but that's true of any of the major selling brands.

Best to let it slide ..

Re: Comments?

Gary Gregory
I would suggest that ALL modern ERA radios have redeeming factors and the
user base will come to 'love' one and that will usually lead to overall
satisfaction.

As long as there is healthy debate on radio performance the engineers and
sales departments of all manufacturers will continue to strive to produce a
'better widget' and WE the CONSUMER are the major winner are we not?

Not too sure about 'worship' but once I got to speak the 'His Lordship' and
heard a rumour he was to get a pay rise. (Did you grant one
Wayne?)....Chuckle!

Just as a side note, I was listening to a couple of "senior citizens' who
were both retired Professional Engineers, one who was heavily involved with
TAIT electronics, and there comments on their K3's bordered on embarrassing.
Full of praise for the K3 performance on both CW and SSB and it is these
comments on 20M that are heard and listened too by many prospective
customers the manufacturers love to hear.

But your right I think Dave, best to let it slide, and get back to the
DX...using a K3 is even better than admiring one...:-)

73's to all,

Gary

Re: Comments?

george fritkin
My thoughts are strictly subjective.  I do not have the sophisticated equipment to evaluate radios.  Besides that, the differences are rather small and almost within measurement accuracy.  I just evaluated the radios strictly from an operating point of view.  They are all top performers and anyone would be proud and pleased to own one.
