Just got my new K3 and everything is great about it except, sound card
data modes (PSK31, etc.) are not working. I put the radio in Data A mode. When I transmit, the rig is keyed, I can hear audio via the monitor function, but nothing is transmitted. I have tried cranking the Mic gain (actually the line in gain) way up, but that doesn't help. I have also confirmed the transmitter is not in test mode. Any suggestions? -- 73 de Jim Littlefield WN1X ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Are you sure you're hearing the audio from the K3 monitor and not from other speakers attached to the computer? What sound card software are you using? Jim,
Are you getting enough audio into the K3? Set the K3 to TX TEST and look at the ALC bargraph. You should have 4 bars lighting solid with the 5th bar possibly blinking. If you are not seeing that indication on the ALC meter in the K3, you are not driving the Line-in with enough audio. The K3 "ALC" meter is also a "VU" meter on the lower part of the scale. Indication below 5 bars indicate no ALC is being generated - ALC action begins with the 5th bar. So if you followed the old advice that you should not have any ALC indication for DATA modes, that old advice must be modified for the K3. The K3 Line-in expects to see line level signals. If you are using an external interface, some by default use microphone level for the output and you must change a jumper in the box to bring it up to line level. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/8/2011 1:47 PM, Jim Littlefield wrote: > Just got my new K3 and everything is great about it except, sound card > data modes (PSK31, etc.) are not working. Jim,
I just checked the Navigator documentation on the website. It does not state whether line level output is available or not, but there is an option called RF ATTN which by default inserts 20 dB attenuation into the audio output. For use with the K3, I would think that should be set to No Attenuation. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/8/2011 2:47 PM, Jim Littlefield wrote: > Positive. My sound card is a US Interface Navigator. Had a similar problem once. Somehow the mixer volume setting for the
signalink was reduced. It needs to be turned all the way up. I'm not home right now but go to control panel, audio, it probably shows whatever the default soundcard is on your system. Change that to the USB Audio Codec. Open the playback settings and make sure the slider is all the way to the top for volume. Don't forget to change the default back to your system soundcard or your computer audio will come out from the Signalink. 73 Greg AB7R On Sat, Jan 8, 2011 at 11:31 AM, Joe Subich, W4TV <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Are you sure you're hearing the audio from the K3 monitor and > not from other speakers attached to the computer?
