Is anyone at Dayton that can tell me what the K3 Dayton special is? Ready
to purchase one but the factory didn't know what the special was and won't take my order and said I had to be at Dayton to get the special. I go to Dayton every other year and this is my off year. I guess I should have bought it at Visalia! Thanks, Pete - K7WTG ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Howard,
That sure seems like a massively unfair policy. There are many, many of us who simply cannot afford to go to Dayton but would appreciate a discount during the once-a-year hamfest. So if you have money and can afford to go to Dayton, you get a cheaper price for Elecraft products. Wow. Even though I'm not planning any Elecraft purchases in the near future I
agree this doesn't seem fair. Also, almost every major retailer has a 'Dayton discount' for the 3 days of the hamfest. I would think it would be in Elecraft's best interest to extend the discount to the less fortunate who can't go to Dayton, for whatever reason. 73 Jeff kb2m -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Harry White Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 13:09 PM To: 'Howard Stephenson'; [hidden email] Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K7WTG Dayton Howard, That sure seems like a massively unfair policy. These small discounts are intended to create some excitement among attendees, hopefully resulting in more people stopping by to kick the tires on new and existing products. Also, to be frank, these sales incentives help us cover the very high costs of attending shows. We ship hundreds of pounds of Elecraft products to Dayton in order to satisfy on-site demand, and we always hope we don't have to send a lot of it back -- at equally high shipping rates. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Sorry to hear that. I guess I misunderstood what I was told at Visalia. I
filled out an order form ($4500) near the end of the exhibit time but didn't place the order because I wasn't sure about the filters I wanted and said at the time I wanted to take advantage of a possible Dayton special. True I didn't say I'd be at Dayton but nobody asked if I would be at Dayton. As I said earlier I go to Dayton every other year and last year I bought a Icom 7700. A couple of months ago I purchased a Icom 7410 as a backup and haven't even taken it out of the box because of a couple of my friends said I really need to look the K3. Between that and couple of the seminars at Visalia sold me on the K3 but it would have been an impulse purchase at the time and I don't do that. That's why I choose to wait. Over the years I've made a few purchases after Dayton and got the Dayton deal when I asked for it. Maybe next year when I come to Dayton again I'll still be in the mood for K3. -----Original Message----- From: Howard Stephenson [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 9:57 AM To: [hidden email] Cc: [hidden email]. Hi Gang:
While it's nice to be able to get a "big show" discount... the fact is that those who attend the event are spending a great deal more money then a buyer who just orders on line or over the phone. Those buyers are spending quite a bit for food, lodging, and travel. I submit, that it's much more cost effective to simply buy on line. I'd wager it would cost me over $500 just to be able to walk through the boneyard... and not buy anything. Granted, seeing a product at a show, talking to the vendors, talking to fellow hams and friends, has value.. and that's what you get when you attend a show. That can certainly help you make a decision of buying a particular piece of equipment. Since the vendors have to ship an inventory to shows, I wonder how it is that they are still able to offer discounts. I guess it's due to the volume of sales. And yes, there's some wonderful buzz when a new item debuts at a show, and certainly Dayton is the benchmark of big shows. So, I'm not going to complain about not getting a discount. If I travel that far, (from EPA to Dayton), I want to see my grandkids... the heck with radio gear! After all, I didn't have to spend extra money to stay home. And the money I saved might just buy me a new toy or two. :) 73 de Ray K2ULR KX3 #211 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The number of K3s sold and its good reputation suggest it's worth the price
whether discounted for Dayton or not. I am certainly of that view. Also, the price won't alter the amount of fun you get from it and if you wait till May 2014 you'll be missing a year's worth :-) 73 Geoff G3UCK -----Original Message----- From: Peter Hedberg Sent: Friday, May 17, 2013 9:10 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K7WTG Dayton ....... just does NOT matter. Giving discounts and feebies reduce profits.....to compensate for the drop
in revenue will flow onto product pricing. Given Elecrafts history of price stability i am happy with no freebies and/or deep discounts at costly hamfests and Wayne articulated Elecrafts position clearly enough i think. Just my insignificant opinion...... Gary Vk1ZZ K3, KX3, KPA500-FT, KAT500-FT,P3. Sometimes I think the value of a discount is not in the money you save but rather in the feeling you have of getting some kind of special deal or special treatment.
I was at the parts department of a local Chevy dealership a few years ago to buy some minor thing. When the guy was totaling things up he said that I get the 10% senior citizen discount. I said "You mean you offer the senior citizen discount for someone who is only 55 ?". He said, "No, the discount is for 65 and older". I gladly turned down the discount. Some discounts are not worth getting especially if only 10 percent which barely covers sales tax here in my area of the country. 73, phil, K7PEH On May 17, 2013, at 5:12 PM, Bill <[hidden email]> wrote: > Saving a few bucks on a purchase that you will use heavily for years just does NOT matter. > > Bill W2BLC > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
