George:
How do you monitor a mode that you dont have a filter for? When you disable a mode for transmit, logically, it shouldnt show up in the display when you scroll through the modes... It is after all DISABLED. Same thing with AGC. Just had a couple of friends using a borrowed K3 for the first time in a mobile in FQP this past weekend that accidentally pressed and held the AGC button, turning off the AGC. They noticed that the front panel display saidn "AGC-" so they assumed that AGC was on and were amazed when multiple stations blasted their ears off. Since there is no little S or little F after the AGC, it was actually off, as we more experienced K3 pilots understand. Would be nice if when the AGC was off if AGC disapeared or we could put a O for off or a X for "crossed out=off" on the display. Minor stuff that you learn, but details are everything sometimes. I can live with what we have, but un other words, if it was an airplane, it would have killed them! Glad its just Ham Radio! You never get a second chance to make a first impression to a user... -lu-w4lt- K3 # 3192 Message: 4 Date: Tue, 3 May 2011 13:04:27 -0400 From: "GDanner" <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Dissable AM To: <[hidden email]> Message-ID: <7C6B28DD3D914658ADCD3FB6C681C3D7@OfficeDeskTop> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" All: If you mean that a mode is not enabled for transmit; then I disagree. I do monitor to modes that I will probably never transmit especially if it means spending the funds to purchase filter(s). At some point the config. menu will become way too bloated to be effective; we might even be there already from a recent posting requesting full information on the menu options. Scrolling one more position is not an issue for at least one of us! My 2 cents! Sorry, what I should have said is:
If you disable a mode THAT YOU DONT HAVE A FILTER FOR or DECIDE YOU DONT WANT TO USE, logically, it shouldnt show up in the display when you scroll through the modes... It is after all DISABLED. Its not a big issue, really, but the question was a valid and logical question. -lu- ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

One thing that seems to work fairly well is that if you have the 2nd
RX, you can have both on AM, but shift the 2nd RX by around 2.7kHz or 2.8kHz with respect to the 1st RX. In effect, it gives you AM bandwidth of about 5.6kHz. Of course that means you don't get diversity RX. 73 de David M0DHO At 04:00 04/05/2011, Lu Romero wrote: >George: > >How do you monitor a mode that you dont have a filter for? ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
