EEEEHAAAAaaa!! CQWWDX WoW!

daleputnam

Ok.. bear with me.. or simply delete.. that's ok too..

but this kid just got something in the mail.. that is really exciting.... to me.

A very nice piece of wallpaper that proclaims:

2007 CW WWDX QRP all band CW for US - #1 in 7th Area....

Now.. I know there were some very esteemed and capable competitors... and to each of them, I have hat in hand... you guys make it look so easy...

and that is what is the tale for those that are really good at it...

you all make it look so easy....

Now.. I used a bit of time with an SB104A at 1 watt... an AT Sprint II at 3 watts, and an Elecraft K2 at 4.5 watts. No two radios at the same time for those looking that way.. but switching them in and out of circuit, while changing antennas too... for the different bands, ... and the antennas are all wire... with the exception of..

yep, here it comes... are you ready? ... here it is the secret weapon...*G*  a   ....

vertical... on a steel roof, is all. the phased member wasn't up for it...

Not bad for less power than half of the night light in the bathroom... and sometimes in a box the size of an altoids box.

Look for you in the next contest too..

this is fun...

maybe see you in the next fox hunt too? or the FoBB at the end of this month?

Congratulations, Dale!   I wish I could tell you that I know how it feels to win something like that, but I don't.  :-)    But I do know the fun and the joy of operating QRP, and seeing you win just validates my faith in low power operations.

See you on the bands  . . .

Enter the contests and you might just be surprised.  Sometimes a
category (QRP, single-band, etc.) won't have a lot of competition (or
even any!) and I've picked up a lot of unexpected wallpaper that
way.  My very first contest (1953 WWDX, CQ didn't sponsor it that
year) resulted in a certificate with less than 700 points and I have
some with even lower totals.

Besides contests are a good opportunity to make a bunch of contacts,
even when the solar activity is lacking.
