ELECRAFT K2. Installing KBT2 with KIO2 in place

bdenley
Is the KBT2 going to fit ok with the KIO2 in the cover as well?  It seems like the battery is pinching the KIO2 coax cable pretty well.

Anyone else have both?

Thanks

Re: ELECRAFT K2. Installing KBT2 with KIO2 in place

Jay Rutherford-3
I have both in my K2 with no problem. Well, I did until I removed the battery and its holder; too heavy and too old technology. I also have a digital card I got from Pauli, EA3BLQ (SK) that fits in as well. The KIO2 hangs on its plug, but stays in place.

Brian,

I have both in my K2.  Ty-wrap the battery wires and the KIO2 cable
together, but do not put any ty-wraps at the ends of the battery.

I also have the KAT2.  In a similar manner, ty-wrap the speaker wiring
to the KAT2 cable, but not at the ends of the battery.

I should also mention that the KAT2 is in the cover as well.

Brian,

No problem with the KAT2 installed.  Ty-wrap the speaker cable to the
KAT2 cable, but do not put any ty-wraps at the end of the battery.
If the speaker wire has ty-wraps that fall at the end of the battery,
cut them off.

Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: ELECRAFT K2. Installing KBT2 with KIO2 in place

Pawlak, Daniel L-2
I just built the KIO2 and installed it with my KBT2 and KAT2 already in place. It was a tight fit, but did not restrict the module or the cable. Keeping it neat using cable ties is essential when you re-install the top cover so that they do not get pinched or lay on top of the RF board. The problem I did have was the cable from the KIO2 meeting at the AUX board. The KIO2 cable was too long and stiff which resulted in it trying to twist the board off the control board. Forming the KIO2 cable into an S-shape helped reduce some of the twisting.

 On my K2 I installed a USB Mini-B Female 5V DB9 interface in place of KIO2
Part # DB9-USB-D5-F
It's powered by the computer not the K2 so it draws no power from the K2

Henry,

Nice solution, but it considers only a connection to a PC.  If that is
all you want, that is fine.

The KIO2 AUX I/O connector also contains internal K2 signals that are
used for an externally mounted KPA100/KAT100 as well as the XVseries
transverters.

Yes that is the downside to it, so something to consider for those who may want that option.
