Hi,
I'm just preparing to perform the ERR12V repair on my K3, and notice that in the bag I was sent the pin connectors are gold-plated but the replacement sockets are not. I thought the idea of the change to was make the path gold to gold all the way through... can anyone confirm if this is correct? See Eric's response: http://www.mail-archive.com/elecraft@mailman.qth.net/msg132150.html Has anyone ever seen any documentation of approximate Serial Numbers or dates of manufacture that this mod applies to? 73, Bill W4ZV |
Hello all:
I had this error during Field Day, so I'm very interested in modifying my K3/100 #2826. However, I'm not seeing this kit listed as one of the "mods". Wondering how to obtain it. Suggestions? 73, Jed AD7KG On Jul 7, 2012, at 6:46, Bill W4ZV <[hidden email]> wrote: > > Mike Clarke-5 wrote >> >> I'm just preparing to perform the ERR12V repair on my K3, and >> notice that in the bag I was sent the pin connectors are >> gold-plated but the replacement sockets are not. > Has anyone ever seen any documentation of approximate Serial > Numbers or dates of manufacture that this mod applies to? It applies at least below s/n 1500 since both my K3s (s/n 622 and 1450) had the tin plate pins on both the KPA-3 and RF board. 1450 has been back to the factory, 622 is waiting for me to get around to it. 73, ... According to this message:
http://www.mail-archive.com/elecraft@.../msg130495.html Regarding the parts: "They will be supplied free of charge on request (email "parts at elecraft dot com"). Regarding the date of manufacture: "I believe we've been shipping the gold-plated connectors since sometime in 2009." I've gone ahead and fitted the parts. I've also had a few queries off-list, so I thought I'd reply to the original post with a summary for future reference. o Firstly, the update is not listed on the mods page. The original thread regarding it can be found here: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/Older-K3-100s-can-be-updated-to-avoid-possible-quot-ERR-12V-quot-problem-tt7284312.html#a7285353. o To get the parts, drop a mail to parts@ o In terms of the vintage of affected kit, my K3 is #2847. o I took some photos as I was going, and have posted my method at http://clarkema.org/posts/2012-06/2012-06-08-k3-service.html. I do feel that it would be helpful to have an entry for this on the mods page, with proper instructions. I for one would be extremely vexed if my K3 failed completely in some remote and interesting spot because of a known fault that I could easily have remedied before leaving home. It's all too easy to miss a single thread on the reflector (assuming you even subscribe) but I suspect most people check the mods list on a regular basis, and certainly when planning a trip. 73, -- Mike, M0PRL ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
