Elecraft Dust Covers, Carry Cases, and More

Hi Group,

As I await the arrival of my hand crafted K3 carrying case from Rose Kopp, I
feel compelled to share a thing or two about my experience so far.

Yes, I've seen the comments here on the Reflector about the quality of her
workmanship, but I don't recall seeing anything about what a total pleasure
it is doing business with her. IT'S DOWNRIGHT FUN working with Rose to
select exactly what combination of colors you might like best.

Some other things you might not know are ...

1) It usually takes Rose one day to make a K2 or K3 case.

2) Rose and OM Ken first met here in Melbourne, Florida at a high school
football game back in 1959. They got married a month later.

How do I know all this? Like I said, it's downright fun doing business with
Rose! :>)

Has anyone posted pictures of Rose's cases? Are they soft cases or hard
cases?

I might point out that there is a picture in the middle of the
collection showing a K3 inside a case with the front panel forwards -
as if you might operate with the K3 in the carry case. That is
obviously something you wouldn't do, due to lack of ventilation. And
generally I'd expect you'd slide the K3 into the case with the carry
handle to the top and so it rests on the RHS feet. The K3 is almost
square, so it can go in the case in either orientation.

These are extremely nice cases and covers. Rose does great work and as
has been said, is a pleasure to do business with. I'm a very happy
customer.

David,

If you were not transporting the K3 and merely keeping it safe on a shelf or
in a closet, you might want to place it with the handle towards the opening
so you could lift it out of the case somewhat more easily with the handle.

While transporting it on the shoulder strap, you would want the front panel
facing up so you minimize the chances of smashing the delicate front panel
into something. Also, since the case is not rigid, the shoulder strap will
put pressure on the back and side panels as you carry it with the front
panel facing up - I would not want to put that pressure on any part of the
front panel.

So, when I travel with mine, it's front panel towards the opening - not the
handle.

I concur. I was in doubt to buy a cheap aluminum DIY-toolbox and cut the
foam myself. In local DIY's I only found either just-too-small boxes or
way-too-biggies. I chose the tailor made solution. I recently ordered a
carrying case for my K3 and Rose did a great job. She is a pleasure to deal
with, replies right away and the case is A++. The case looks great and it's
been
made with attention to even the smallest detail. No loose threads and smooth
sewing. And you get a couple of words to be embroidered on to 'pimp the
bag'.
The case got shipped almost right away in a hard carton box. The best part
was that the shipping label guided the parcel through Belgium customs
without delay and without extra charges.
"What you paid is what it costs" is not always the case when trying to get
something into ON-land (my backordered KRX3 sat idling on an customs desk
for over 3 weeks and they charged 'handling fee' for that). But Rose's info
on the green label did the job and it got through.

I'm very happy with this carry case and hope to take the K3 out some day.

Thanks bob - I have a Kopp Cover for the purpose of non-use on the
bench :-)
And carry case - I wouldn't have thought there was very much pressure
on the side panels at all - I'd be more worried about handling the K3
to get it in the case without the side handle.
