On page 48 of the K2 manual the S-meter alignment is done. I was able to get the Cal S low done just fine. When I then moved on to the Cal S HI ( with the RF gain fully counter clockwise) I was not able go get any segments of the S meter to light up. I adjusted the VFO full circle and not one segment of the S meter would light up. The AGC voltage was adjust to 3.80 volts DC without any problem. Also I read on the list of a similar problem and Don suggested to check RP6 pin's 9 and 10 and U6 pin 3 (all on the control board) I reheated and soldered these, actually all the pins on U6 and RP6 and this did not solve the problem. Just wondering what the next step would be?MikeVE3WDM

Can the K3 operate in the M.A.R.S. spectrum? I am sure it can't but one of
the team on the expedition may want to buy one of the K3s after the trip and just asked me... ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Yes it can. There is an area around the 8.2 MHz IF where it can't transmit and
another range slightly further away from the IF where it is limited to 10W transmit. Dave K8JDC Can the K3 operate in the M.A.R.S. spectrum? Jay,
The K3 will operate on the MARS frequencies just fine, except for a small range around the 8 MHz IF frequency. Contact [hidden email] for instructions on how to open up the transmit for out of ham band operation. 73, Don W3FPR On 5/29/2013 8:54 PM, Jay wrote: > Can the K3 operate in the M.A.R.S. spectrum? It certainly can. I just "unlocked" my K3 for MARS operation. Gary Surrency <gary@elecraft . com> can provide the utility and instructions.

You will need to send a copy of your MARS credentials via scan or
email. The region (spectrum) from 7.5 to 9.0 MHz is hard-locked out for TX though, being too near the IF to be usable or safe for the K3. Gary will send you a utility program that unlocks TX up to 25 MHz. There is a second utility that allows TX around CB, with a guard band. You should ask for both of these. For Navy-Marine Corps MARS, there are a large number of "shore ops" and phone patch freqs around CB. There are plans to use these higher freqs during the solar max for data exchange, especially radio-only W2LK, and that's inter-service as I understand it. 73, matt W6NIA / NNN0UET, SCA On Wed, 29 May 2013 18:20:56 -0700 (PDT), you wrote: >It certainly can.
