Since I am interested in the Ultimatic mode and the Bug mode I have on my Pico keyer, can anyone tell me (I am mostly concerned with the KX1 and also the KX3 keyer chip):
1) Do the Elecraft keyer chips have these modes? 2) Is the Elecraft keyer keyer chip (drop-in) upgradable to a Pico Keyer chip? Elecraft does not use separate keyer chips. Morse code generation is
performed by the main microcontroller. I would love to see Ultimatic mode added to both the K3 and the KX3.

David,
The Elecraft keying selections are Iambic A or B and hand key. The keying function is built into the firmware (no separate keyer chip) If you need Ultimatic, you will have to use an external keyer with the key selection set to HAND. 73, Don W3FPR On 8/21/2013 1:09 PM, David Toepfer wrote: > Since I am interested in the Ultimatic mode and the Bug mode I have on my Pico keyer, can anyone tell me (I am mostly concerned with the KX1 and also the KX3 keyer chip): > > 1) > Do the Elecraft keyer chips have these modes? > > 2) > Is the Elecraft keyer keyer chip (drop-in) upgradable to a Pico Keyer chip? > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I suspected this. Oh well. The Pico Keyer is pretty small in an altoids mini size case. I could probably velcro it to my leg strap or on the top/back of a portable rig.

Is there actualy a timing problem with kx3 cpu ??
Keying with 30wpm and more the dot-dash ratio is incorrect - very short dots like a machine gun :) Compared to my k1, kx1,k2 and k3 the cw from internal keyer of kx3 is terrible Dick, do you think there will be a solution in firmware soon ?? Once I did a contest where the KX3 was keyed by N1MM logging software via serial port/simple transistor switch, and I found the CW sounded quite choppy. I replaced the transistor circuit with one of those K1EL winkeyer kits, and it still sounded choppy, but I had read an article on the web somewhere about switchover delays in the KX3. The author of that article recommended a particular value for the fixed delay compensation parameter in the Winkeyer, and when I configured that, the CW sounded FB.
It is quite possible that some tweaking of the internal keyer code in the KX3 could produce some improvements, but so far I haven't made any measurements myself to investigate this topic. 73, Matt VK2RQ On 22/08/2013, at 5:13 PM, Klaus Koppendorfer <[hidden email]> wrote: > Tnx Mat, yes i know this article – measurements are done with 20 wpm > With higher speeds it will become more worth !! > > Von: Matt VK2RQ [mailto:[hidden email]] > Gesendet: Donnerstag, 22.
