I would like to use two external speakers with my K3 setting them up one on each side of the radio. Has anyone found something that somewhat matches in color and size to the K3 and has a good sound? Seems like Kenwood used to make a smaller speaker that might work. Would like to hear from anyone who has a similar setup. Thanks

Tim,
Not addressing the aesthetics of the speakers, but pointing out other considerations. In addition to the K3, do you have other audio sources that you want to listen to while in the shack? If the answer is 'yes', you may want to consider something like I have here - reasonably good stereo speakers (mine are the old RS Solo-3B) that are fed by an audio power amplifier. Ahead of the amplifier is a Behringer 802 mixer that has inputs from an FM tuner, a tape deck, and the K3 as well as connections in and out of the computer soundcard. The sound is great. The soundcard feeding the mixer is different than the one connected direct to the K3 line-in/line-out for use with digital modes. I cannot comment on the RF immunity of this setup. My antennas are all resonant and located more than 80 feet from the shack, so there is little possibility of "RF in the shack". Others with non-resonant antennas close to the shack location may experience problems. Consistent with Jim Brown's (K9YC) recommendations, the computer is bonded both to the radio and the mixer, and they are all powered from the same AC outlet. 73, Don W3FPR NZ8J wrote: > > I would like to use two external speakers with my K3 setting them up > one on each side of the radio. Tim:
Personally, I like the UNamplified Motorola Mobile Speakers. I bought a pair of them a month or so ago for about $9 each, not including shipping, off EBay. They're 8-Ohm (wish they were 4 Ohms though) but give a very nice sounding audio and the black color goes nicely with the K3. 73, Tom N0SS At 16:32 11/30/2008, you wrote: I would like to use two external speakers with my K3 setting them up one on each side of the radio. The CB sections of most truck stops sell a variety of
suitable external speakers. Mine are Barjan 320-701's. Radio Scrap has similar speakers, too. 73!
