I second what K9YC said. A big thanks to Eric and Wayne for the
sponsorship they provide to DX-peditions. Elecraft has sure become the "standard" in DX-pedition gear. I worked VK6FZM/MM on Sunday night, both phone (WB9Z op) and CW (K0IR op), on 20M long-path. They had a terrific signal and I think they are using a trap vertical lashed to the railing of the boat. On Monday at my sunset I worked them on 40M long-path and they were a solid S9 here on my K3. I was lucky enough to visit (although not operate from) Amsterdam Island in
1987. When we arrived the main ship's VHF Marine Band radio had broken so we conducted our ship to shore communications on 40 metres. We had a very rough passage from Fremantle travelling a lot further south than the current expedition. In the relatively calm waters beside Amsterdam Island I managed to fix the VHF radio (broken microphone cable) allowing normal communications for our departure. I am hoping to work the guys now I have had chance to build (but not yet test) my KXPA100 kit. 73s Nick VK2FS -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft Sent: Wednesday, 22 January 2014 03:39 To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] FT5SM en route as VK6FZM/MM using KX3 + KXPA100 The FT5ZM Dxpedition is at sea heading for Amsterdam Island running a KX3 + KXPA100 as VK6FZM/MM.
