Is anybody else unable to download the firmware from the FTP Site?
I have not been able to download yesterday or today. I copied the URL and pasted it at the top of IE in the destination box and
then it worked. I had problems from my Mac using Safari but moved to a Windows
platform downloaded to a flash drive and then moved to the Mac to install....Kudos to the developer of the NR improvements...a much needed upgrade in my view...night and day in fact. Ultimately, my Elecraft beta file FTP solution was to download a standalone FTP client http://filezilla-project.org/download.php . Filezilla is extremely powerful and features great configuration flexibility. In my case, the Filezilla setting "ACTIVE Transfer" was the silver bullet for FTP downloads of Elecraft beta firmware updates. Bill, on a Mac, you can connect directly to the FTP site, as if it were a folder (you can on other OS's if you know how)... In the Finder, click "Connect to Server" under the "Go" menu, or type cmd-K (cmd being the Apple key). Type in the url - "ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/K3/firmware/beta" and click the "+" button to add it to the list of servers so it is remembered for the future, then click "Connect". When I first went to the site it would not download, I hit the refresh
button and then all was well. Has happened a few times like that seems my computer needed to refresh the page and all was well. Also many browsers will flush the cache and refresh if you hold shift
while clicking refresh. I think most of these problems stem from more and more ISPs starting to use transparent caching proxy servers so they can over sell their bandwidth to even higher points. There isn't a whole lot that can be done about that but they usually keep those servers off the FTP ports. Seems that's starting to change though.
