i have the 2.78 version installed and it does the same thing... i tried reloading the firmware and did not change... as far as modes i run all modes from sstv to hell, psk, rtty, olivia.. My agc settings vary for different modes, but just say on PSK i run the AGC to one line below max for the threshold. I am using the Computer sound card into the line in line out... It works fine when i go to CW and key the radio and get the full power out then it i will do the full 100+w on data... hope this explains it a little better.. If you are operating in a mode, and output power does not seem to be
where it should, and then you press and hold XMIT, putting it in Tune mode. Release it, I do this by tapping the PTT foot switch. If you now go back to your previous mode and get expected output power, this was fixed with a firmware release. I experienced it with SSB. Once I pressed Tune, then back in SSB the K3 performed as expected. Take a look at the beta software release notes on the site. You can do this without loading the software. I'm not 100% sure I understand the issue but think about it....If you are in
CW mode and you have your power adjusted at 100 Watts then you switch to DATA A and adjust your sound card's output and or your MIC (Line in) control for an ALC (Not AGC) of a few squares on the meter, you will find yourself running 100 Watts in PSK31 mode. I really doubt if you intend to do this since it can cause excessive IMD plus put a strain on your K3's final amplifier. Also, you will find that just very slight changes in your sound card's output will affect your RF output. It might even creep up as some describe. If you first load up in CW mode then reduce the PWR setting to 20 watts THEN go to DATA A an adjust for an ALC kick up of a square or so you will get your 20 watts output. You might find the RF output to be more stable this way too. Any rig will act like this. Now when you go back to CW mode, you will have to increase your PWR back to 100 Watts if you want full output. Hope I'm making some sense here.
