WB6MID was *with* Jones but that wasn't Jones' callsign:

Jim Jones was initially licensed at his "church" in (?) Oklahoma City.

Re: Far OT trivia

Rick Johnson-2

The Peoples Temple operated two radio stations in Guyana:                 one in Georgetown, WB6MNH/8R1; and one in Jonestown, WB6MID/8R3.                 It is important to note that although the calls were assigned                 to very real individuals, more than likely these same individuals                 were not the ones who sent out these cards. It is equally unlikely                 that these individuals made all of these contacts in the first                 place. Although we cannot be certain that this is true 100% of                 the time, evidence from tapes of these radio communications indicates                 that many of the radio contacts were made by individuals other                 than the QSL card's namesake.

There was a station in Jonestown and another at the Peoples Temple in
San Francisco.  It was no secret that they were being used to conduct
business which in some cases was the transfer of illegal merchandise.
The FCC inspected the S.F. station and found several Part 97 violations
including overpower.  As far as I remember, the ham in S.F. did not go
to Jonestown because he was getting disillusioned and so remained alive
and repented for getting involved with that group.  I know this for a
fact because I was the FCC agent who inspected that station.  It was
scary - won't say any more.

Seems I remember the ARRL issuing a warning not to run phone patches for them as they were conducting church business.  Think I had a card from the mission but it was lost in a flood in 1989.
